PhD-Student (f/m/d)

The research group "Psychosocial Epidemiology and Public Health" at the DZNE has an open call for a funded PhD position starting on January 01, 2020. The research group investigates psychosocial aspects (e.g., economic and social factors, lifestyle, living situation) of age-related cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's dementia. Aim of the PhD position is to enhance research on leisure activities. The PhD candidate will conduct empirical studies to generate new scientific results on how leisure activities in middle and late life influence cognitive decline in old age and dementia risk. Activities will include planning and conducting research studies and advancing theoretical models on the topic. The research group is looking forward to welcome a PhD student with plenty of motivation and enthusiasm who enjoys working scientifically.

Tasks

  • actively contributing to the progress of the state of research in the topic
  • planning studies and collecting data (e.g., recruiting participants, conducting interviews with dementia patients)
  • analysis of study data
  • writing publications and giving presentations at national and international conferences
  • motivation to complete the PhD program within 3 years

Requirements

  • completed Master's Degree (or equivalent) in psychology, cognitive science, gerontology, or health science
  • knowledge in the field of dementia and/or cognitive science
  • experience working with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, SAS, Matlab, R)
  • independent and well-organized working style
  • strong motivation and joy in learning
  • good English language skills, willingness to improve German language skills
