PhD-student in Signal Processing
Ref 4205-2018
Lulea University of Technology is the northernmost University of Technology in Scandinavia with its main campus in Lulea and education in a wide variety of academic subjects.
The Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering hosts nine of these subjects, including the subject of Signal Processing. Current research in signal processing
takes place in the areas of measurement technology and flexible wireless communication, both in close cooperation with industry. To strengthen our research in the field of flexible
wireless communication, we are looking for a PhD student.
Upon the first release of the 5th generation mobile network (5G) standard, LTU has now launched a project "Wireless Innovation Arena", with one of Sweden's first 5G networks opening on campus in Lulea. Many companies and stakeholders will develop and test new 5G services in this network and focus on rural applications will be an important part of the work of the project.
In the Signal Processing group, we aim at future 5G radio system solutions that help 5G be used everywhere, not only in cities and urban environments. We develop concepts and algorithms where mobile coverage and accessibility are reflected in the management of antennas, relays, spectrum, radio interference, energy, etc. We are developing new next generation radio access technologies that meet relevant mobile phone coverage requirements, as well as new requirements that will be relevant when machines and autonomous vehicles will be connected on a large scale.
We work in close collaboration with industry and in an international environment.
Work assignments
We are looking for an ambitious and creative colleague who wants to contribute to cutting edge research in signal processing oriented towards the above profile area(s). The position as PhD candidate provides ample opportunity for interaction with industry, participation in academic conferences and experience from scientific publishing. The research will be carried out in collaboration with stakeholders outside the university.
A PhD student is primarily responsible for pursuing a doctoral education program with the goal to successfully defend a doctoral dissertation. The full-time position, that may include departmental service (usually teaching) with a volume of up to 20% of full time work, typically results in attractive employments after the PhD exam, either in industry or in academia.
Subject description
The subject includes signal processing with emphasis on development and optimization of algorithms for processing single and multi-dimensional signals that are closely related to applications and applied research.
Qualifications
You are eligible according to the specifications in Section 41 of Chapter 7 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and you have an M.Sc. degree with specialization in signal processing, wireless communications, mathematics or related topics. You have a strong interest and preferably experience in our above profile research area and communication and working in a group comes naturally.
