The DBFZ (Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige GmbH) is dedicated to systemic and technical questions
in relation to the energetic and alternative use of biomass within the scope of applied research. To enhance our team
we are looking for a:
PhD student (m/f) in the topic:
“The role of smart bioenergy in combination with CO2 removal in decarbonisation scenarios”
Energy scenarios play an important role for policy decision making e.g. in forms of identifying investment requirements,
policy design options and their implications. Given the rapid transformation of the energy system, innovative concepts
playing potentially an important role towards a transition to a low-carbon economy are not being implemented in most
of the current scenarios.
Description: Goal of this work is to develop a method for the identification of characteristic parameters of innovative
smart bioenergy options in combination with carbon removal concepts (e.g. carbon capture and storage (CCS)) and with power-to-x
(PtX) pathways for their implementation into future energy scenarios. In a second stage, the concepts will be described with
techno-economic features, socio-economic drivers and legal framework, the specific technical, economic, environmental and
system-related indicators will be quantified and challenges and barriers identified.
We offer: Interdisciplinary research at two renowned scientific research centers in Germany, the DBFZ in collaboration
with Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). The opportunity to work in dynamic interdisciplinary and multinational
teams, while developing the skill sets for conducting independent research. Support and training provided by the DBFZ doctoral
Requirements: Master’s degree in environmental or economic science or others related to the topic. Knowledge on
bioenergy and carbon removal techniques and previous experience in energy scenarios is desired, as well as a good level of German
and English languages. Candidates should have the ability to deal with interdisciplinary approaches and experience in EU project
execution is an advantage.
The position is planned as a doctorate in the work program of the DBFZ of the BMEL (Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture)
and is limited to three years. The regular working hours are 60 per cent of a full position. We offer salary and social benefits in
conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD EG 13 Bund).
Please send your detailed application until 07.06.2017 to the DBFZ Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige
GmbH, Mrs Alexandra Mohr, Torgauer Straße 116, D-04347 Leipzig, or to email@example.com
(Please send only one document attachment, preferably as a PDF).
Travel expenses for the interview are refunded according to the regulations
by the „Reisekostenzuschuss für Vorstellungsreisen für das Bundesmi- nisterium des Inneren und den Geschäftsbereich BMI“ (ZI1-30201/2#1).
