Postdocs and/or Assistant Professors for Digital Twins in Robotics

SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), located in Odense, invites applications for several positions as Postdocs and Assistant Professors in the area of Digital Twins for robot technologies, which will be vacant from 1 January 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. The positions are for a 3-year period.

The candidate will be integrated in the section SDU Robotics, which is at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving Universal Robots, Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR) and 120+ other companies. We are specialized in robot solutions involving modelling, simulation and control of advanced robot technologies (systems and services) for industrial, welfare and medical applications. The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We solve challenging research problems from real applications and implement novel robot solutions together with end users such as LEGO, Danfoss and Bang & Olufsen.

We are looking for candidates to extend our research activities in robotics with a focus on novel industrial applications. More specifically, we seek candidates that can contribute to designing and developing a software platform that addresses model- and simulation-based analysis, commissioning, monitoring and control of advanced robot technologies. This involves the development of tool chains and software architectures capable of connecting to databases, common simulation and engineering tools as well as physical automation devices by means of Digital Twins.

The candidate is expected to have most of the following qualifications:
  • Documented practical experience with software architectures for simulation
  • Documented knowledge in robotics, simulation, database technologies and VR/AR
  • Strong programming skills (particularly in C/C++, Python and Qt)
  • Strong mathematics skills and practical knowledge in 3D modelling
The application has to state the desired type of position.
