Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Centre for Materials and Coastal ResearchHamburg
in the field of high energy X-ray diffraction for materials science
Code No. 2016/WP 4
The place of employment is Hamburg.
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials
and coastal research. You can find more information at www.hzg.de.
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG) operates an outstation at DESY in Hamburg in order to provide access to highly
brilliant synchrotron radiation within its German Engineering Materials Science Center (GEMS). At the PETRA III synchrotron
radiation source, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht jointly operates the High Energy Materials Science Beamline (HEMS, P07),
the Imaging Beamline (IBL, P05) and the Nanofocus Endstation of Micro- and Nanofocus X-ray Scattering Beamline (MINAXS, P03)
along with supporting lab spaces.
The High Energy Materials Science Beamline P07 is optimized for diffraction techniques with a strong focus on materials science
applications and is actively used by members of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre project SFB 986
"Tailor-Made Multi-Scale Materials Systems - M³". P07 and its sample environment enable fast in-situ measurements as
well as measurements with high spatial resolution. Many applications are in the field of phase analysis or residual stress and
texture analysis. In addition, SAXS at high photon energies is used for nanostructure analysis.
Within this framework we are looking for a PostDoc (m/f) at P07 High Energy Materials Science Beamline.
The position will initially be limited until 30th of June 2020 with the option of an extension.
support of users (from within and outside of SFB 986) before, during and after their beam times at P07
scientific & technical advancement, i.e. active acquisition of scientific collaborations within SFB 986, implementation of new sample environments according to the demands of the user community, exploration of X-ray optics for diffraction
the pursuit of an own scientific project within the scope of Helmholtz programme-oriented funding and/or SFB 986
Profile of qualifications:
PhD in physics or in a related discipline
knowledge in materials science would be an asset
experience with synchrotron X-ray diffraction
experience with small-angle X-ray scattering would be an asset
working knowledge of the analysis of large amounts of diffraction data
programming skills in a high level computer language
hands-on experience with development of instrumentation and sample environment
good German and English language skills
For further questions please contact Dr. Peter Staron (Peter.Staron@hzg.de).
We offer an appropriate salary related to the German public tariff (TV-AVH) plus the usual social benefits for the
public employment sector. The Helmholtz- Zentrum Geesthacht is an equal opportunity employer for women, minorities,
and people with disabilities, and strives to increase the percentage of women in the science sector. Severely
disabled persons with equal qualifications will be considered preferentially.
Please send your application indicating job offer code no. 2016/WP 4 preferably by email (as pdf-file including motivation
letter, a CV and a list of publications) to email@example.com
Closing date for applications is September, 2nd, 2016.
