Postdoctoral research fellow (f/m/d) in informatics - programming theory
University of Bergen
Postdoctoral research fellow in informatics - programming theory
At the Department of Informatics there is a vacancy for a postdoctoral research fellow position in the field of programming theory. The position is for a fixed term of 4 years.
About the Department
Digitization of businesses, industry, public administration, and education makes informatics play an increasingly important role in the development of the society. Research and education in informatics are crucial for the digital transformation of the society to succeed. The Department of informatics contributes to this through seven research groups that deliver research and education at a high international level in algorithms, bioinformatics, information security, machine learning, optimization, programming theory, and visualization. All the groups are successfully co-funded by research grants, among others by the European Research Council (ERC). The department offers state of art education at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. Due to the central role informatics plays in society, the department is in rapid growth, in the number of students, research directions, and employees. We have today about 700 students, more than 50 PhD candidates, and 150 employees, among which 35 are faculty. We recently founded the Center for Data Science (CEDAS) as an important extension of our research and education activities.
The group's focus is software as a formal object of study, using formal methods and language technology, including developing applications in various domains. The group also does fundamental research in algebraic and categorical methods, logic and type theory with a strong eye to practical application. The combination of theoretical and practical investigation gives PUT a fairly unique flavour. We are looking for an excellent candidate with strong ambitions within PUT's domain of interest, in particular a person who can strengthen the group in the direction of software.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
Applicants must hold a Norwegian PhD or equivalent within informatics, mathematics, or a similar field. PhD-students may apply if the defense of the PhD thesis is to be completed by 30 June 2020. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded.
Teaching experience is a strong advantage.
Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others.
Applicants must have excellent skills in oral and written English.
A good conduct of the Norwegian language is a strong advantage.
Personal and relational qualities will be emphasized. Research experience, ambitions and potential will also count when evaluating the candidates.
Special requirements for the position:
Teaching of bachelor and master courses in the area of software, specifically the department's course INF214 - Concurrent programming.
Participating in supervision of master and PhD students.
Research within the field of software (as specified above).
Participation and contribution to applications for external funding of research.
Public outreach and student interaction activities when appropriate within the field of software, or computer science in general.
