Full Professorship (W 3) for Design Thinking and Innovation Research

Design Thinking is the interface between society, economy, and technology, characterized by both a strong interdisciplinary orientation and aconsistentuserorientation, including a high focus on real-worldapplications. The core objects of research are, in particular, innovation, change, and transformation processes by teams and organizations. The successful candidate will have research experience in at least one of the following subject areas and have attained international recognition:
  • Innovation, change and transformation management within the business world and society
  • Change processes within an entrepreneurial and public context
  • Solving complex issues within corporations by using interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches
  • Methods and tools of user-centered social research
Applicants will have had extensive and pertinent experience regarding development, design, implementation, and project- orientated application of research concepts in Design Thinking and thereby possess the ability to manage international Design Thinking research projects. An international, excellent scientifc prof le is expected along with a broad network within the Design Thinking community; extensive experienceincollaboration with international, national, and local research networks and large enterprises, SMEs, non-proft organizations, and public institutions will be a great plus.
The qualifed candidate will have knowledge of the development, teaching, and organization of privately and publicly fnanced research and educational institutions. This includes extensive and proven knowledge in line with the cultural, strategic, and operational change processes addressed in Design Thinking, particularly seen from a research perspective. In addition, the applicant is expected to possess wide-ranging background knowledge regarding the teaching and researched subject areas of digitization in the broadest sense as well as their embedding within organizational and economic transformation processes. The successful candidate is expected to take responsibility in the HPI-Stanford Design Thinking Research Program.

The joint professorship is being flled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching obligation of at least 8 hours per week at the University of Potsdam.
The following applicationrequirements for professors mustbe documented in accordance with Section 41 ofthe Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a special ability for scientifc work, as is typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), ajuniorprofessorshiporworkasaresearchassociateataninstitutionofhighereducationoranextramural research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social feld, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointmentprocedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.
