The University of Siegen aims to fill the following position for the Science and Technology Faculty
IV - in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EE-CS):
Professorship for Computer Vision
(W2/W3 salary level - depending on qualification and experience)
The future holder of this position is expected to strengthen the research focus on Visual Computing
and Sensorics in the department and Faculty IV. We expect from the successful candidate an international
reputation, particularly established through high grade publications, as well as extensive
experience in the acquisition and supervision of externally funded research projects. Another
requirement is a research profile demonstrating a thorough methodical background in basic research
e.g. in one or several of the fields of Optimization, Machine Learning, 3D Reconstruction, Scene
Analysis, Pose Estimation, and/or Probabilistic Methods with concrete application fields. Here a
conjunction with current research in Visual Computing and Sensorics is advantageous.
Moreover, we expect the readiness to actively integrate your own research with the existing research
focus on Visual Computing and Sensorics, into the interdisciplinary Center for Sensor Systems
(ZESS), as well as with new development and coordinated research projects.
You will teach courses in the existing fields of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. This
will include basic courses about image processing, general core subjects of the Computer Science
Bachelor’s program, as well as research oriented courses in the fields of Computer Vision of the
master’s programs. You will also actively participate in increasing the public profile and internationalization
of these programs.
You are expected to be able to offer the curriculum in German after an initial period of 5 years, at
the latest.
Conditions for employment, apart from the general public regulations, are a finished university education,
pedagogical aptitude, and excellent competence in scientific work, usually demonstrated by a
relevant doctorate, as well as teaching experience and proof of didactic competence. These criteria
will be evaluated solely and extensively in the appointment proceedings. The additional scientific
achievements can be demonstrated through a junior professorship, a habilitation or through a
scientific position at a university or in a non-university research institution. The University of Siegen
attaches great importance to providing intensive support to students and doctoral candidates and
expects the teachers to pursue a corresponding commitment. Experience with the acquisition of
third-party funds is desired.
The payment structure is determined either by salary bracket W2 (LBesG NRW) or W3 (LBesG
NRW), depending on qualification and experience.
