PROFESSOR IN CO-DESIGN, INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY
University of Aalborg, Copenhagen, offers a unique opportunity as professor in a field of high interest in Department of Planning. At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Planning, Copenhagen, a position as Professor in Co-design, Innovation and Sustainability is open for appointment from 1 August 2020 or soon hereafter. The Department of Planning is currently strengthening teaching and research in engineering design. The applicant will become part of a research group that complements engineering design and conceptualisation in product design with socio-material and sustainability approaches. Our research strategy is to explore how design approaches and methods can contribute to sustainable change. At Department of Planning, we have about 200 employees situated at the Aalborg and Copenhagen campus. The department provides excellent research and teaching in the field of planning, technology and society in order to create a more sustainable future. We are interdisciplinary in the technical, natural and social science disciplines and present a unique combination of social and technological understanding where digital and technological solutions merge with the needs of society. Our research creates the foundation for educating the young people of tomorrow, and as part of Aalborg University, the department rests on a socially engaging and problem-oriented approach. It is also at Department of Planning that the UNESCO Center for Problem-Based Learning is at home. That helps ensure, we create educations aimed at the job market and a society with increasing focus on technology, digitization, sustainability and partnerships for a sustainable transition.
Within the Department of Planning, in the Section of Sustainable Design and Transition, one research theme focusses on design; co-design and design for innovation and sustainable change including engineering design and science and technology studies (STS). Empirically, the focus is currently on healthcare product-service-systems. The candidate for the position as professor are to develop and strengthen these research areas. We are looking for a candidate that can take on a leading role in the development of our research and engineering programs within co-design, innovation and sustainability based on engineering design and socio-material theory and practice (STS). It is expected that the candidate has experience with external funding from competitive source.
Key focus points and concerns could be:
Design of material and intangible objects and the circulation of these to enable collaboration and negotiation between designers and stakeholders and the movement of knowledge across sites.
Co-design of sustainable products and services across diverse knowledge domains and strategic concerns in an industrial and organisational context of front-end innovation.
Co-design of circular business models with actors across competing perspectives on value in the value chain including institutional practices and governmental regulation.
Further, teaching in the engineering program (bachelor and master) Sustainable Design and the development of engineering competences in co-design is part of the position.

The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate's undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.
