Hochschule Geisenheim University (HGU) offers both application-oriented
bachelor programs and research-based master programs and has the right

W1-Professorship (with W2 tenure tenure track) (f/m/d) Digital
Technology and Automation in the Production of Special Crops
The professorship belongs to the Department of Agricultural Engineering
(TE). Faculty in the Department are conducting research and teaching
in a wide array of fields in engineering, technology, automation, crop
sensing and precision farming.
Responsibilities include research and teaching in the fields of digital
technology, crop sensing and automation in the production of horticultural
crops including grapevines. Special emphasize should be placed on the
use of modern sensing technologies to optimize seeding and planting
processes, crop management, GPS guided machines, innovative and
precise proxy sensing in the production of special crops in combination
with automation technology.
The implementation of digital technology along the entire process chain
from crop cultivation to the point of sale is central task for this position. The
teaching load includes courses in German and English taught bachelor and
master programs with 4-6 teaching hours per week during the semester.
Specific teaching assignments with a significant engineering component
are embedded in the study programs on Horticultural Sciences, Food
logistics and Viticulture and Oenology.
We seek to appoint a junior scientist with excellent potential for high
standard national and international research on digital technology, crop
sensing and automation. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral
degree or equivalent scientific qualification in biological and agricultural
engineering, biological systems engineering, mechanical engineering,
electrical engineering, or related fields are required.
For this position, we expect pedagogic aptitude, including the ability to
teach in German and English. First experiences with the acquisition of
external funds are desirable. The candidate must be willing to co-operate
with other research and teaching units on campus. Participation in and
performance of departmental and university service is expected.
We are looking to fill the positions as soon as possible. All positions
are initially W1 fixed-term positions with civil servant status for 6 years
with tenure track to a tenured W2 position after a successful evaluation
based on § 64 Hessian Higher Education act. The professorships are
funded by the Tenure Track Program of the Federal Government and
the Federal States.
