invites applications for the following position
starting 1st April 2022:
Professorship (W 2)
for Computational Physics
The successful candidate will be specialized in quantitative
theoretical-physical modeling and computational physics,
with applications in non-linear dynamical systems. We are
looking for an internationally outstanding scientist with a
proven record in original research, procurement of external
funding, and with a strong publication record in the area
of computational physics and theoretical modeling. We
are particularly interested in previous research expertise
in the areas of climate physics, physics of oceans and the
atmosphere, or other related areas in non-linear dynamics.
The successful candidate will be keen to engage in
collaborations with other groups at the Institute of Physics
& Astronomy, as well as institutes working in the context of
environmental science in the wider Potsdam area.
The new professor will teach undergraduate and advanced
students in theoretical physics and supervise final theses in
B.Sc/M.Sc programs. At the M.Sc level, she/he is expected
to substantially engage in teaching (in English) for the M.Sc
course „Climate Physics“ and the new degree program
„Climate, Earth, Water, Sustainability (ClEWS)“. Teaching of
physics modules at the B.Sc level and for teaching degrees
is generally conducted in German.
The candidate must have a PhD degree in Physics or a
related discipline.
The hiring process is subject to the requirements set forth in Section 41 of the Brandenburg
Higher Education Act (BbgHG). The appointment procedure will be conducted in accordance
with Section 40 BbgHG.
