Science of the
University of Potsdam invites applications for
Professorship (W2)
for Developmental Language Disorders
(Tenure Track)
Applicants should demonstrate an excellent record in experimental psycholinguistic
research on developmental disorders of the early acquisition of spoken
and/or written language, as evidenced by peer-reviewed international journal
publications. Expertise in the variability of language development under various
learning conditions is expected (e. g. hearing impairments, general developmental
delays, specific language impairments or developmental dyslexia).
The successful candidate will be integrated into an international scientific network
and will have experience in writing grant applications. She or he should be ready
for collaboration in existing research projects on early language acquisition and
its impairments and for independent grant applications as part of larger research
units (e.g., SFB 1287: Limits of Variability in Language; the Crossing the Borders
Research Group). Furthermore, it is expected that the applicant will contribute to
the activities of the University Research Focus Group on Cognitive Sciences.
The position includes teaching in English and German in the bachelor’s and international
master’s programs offered by the Linguistics Department, specifically in
the bachelor’s program in patholinguistics.
This call for applications is meant exclusively for applicants who are at the beginning
of their careers as university lecturers and whose appointment would be a
first-time appointment in accordance with Section 43 subsection 1 sentence 3 of
the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG).
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in
accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches
Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical
aptitude, and a special ability for scientific work, as is typically documented by a
dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and
additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral
dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution
of higher education or an extramural research institution, or scholarly activity
in the private sector, or in a similar social field, whether in Germany or abroad.
A tenure track review as defined in Section 46 subsection 2 BbgHG cannot have
already been completed.
The appointment procedure shall be done in accordance with Section 40 BbgHG.
The appointment shall be made with the provisioning of an equivalent budgeted
position. The candidate shall initially be hired for a period of five years, as a civil
servant or as an employee. A tenure track evaluation will take place in a timely
manner before the expiration of this period. If the tenure track review results in
a positive finding, then the position will become a tenured professorship (tenure
