The Faculty of Biology invites applications for a position
Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience
W3 tenured or W2 (tenure track W3)
The candidate‘s research should address the mechanisms controlling behaviour,
using a broad spectrum of modern experimental and computational
approaches. The experimental methods may address cellular, network and
organismic aspects of natural behaviour. Ideal candidates study and model
the neuronal processes that govern real-life interactive behaviour, such as
decision making, learning, navigation, social interactions or higher-order
movement control. They are expected to integrate actively into the interdisciplinary
Cluster of Excellence ‚Cognitive Interaction Technology‘ (CITEC) that
overlaps several faculties. Contributions to other cooperative initiatives, for
example in behavioural ecology, are welcome.
Teaching will include participation at all curricular levels (BA, MA and PhD)
within the Faculty of Biology and in cooperation with other faculties. Conditions
for employment are a PhD as well teaching experience and additional scientific
merits in research fields relevant to the position. The qualification level of the
candidates will be evaluated during the selection procedure (§ 36 HG).
The W2 Professorship with tenure track is initially limited to 5 years; an agreement
on objectives will be established after the appointment. After a positive
evaluation in the final year, the position will be tenured. In an exceptional
situation, the tenure evaluation is already possible after three years. This exception
has to be well justified by extraordinary scientific achievements and a
respective contribution in strengthening the profile of the university. The
applicants for the tenure position have already established a promising
research field as Postdoc.
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped
persons are explicitly encouraged.
Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its achievement
in the provision of equal opportunity and has been recognised as a family
friendly university. The University welcomes applications from women. This
is particularly true with regard both to academic and technical posts as well
as positions in Information Technology and craft. Applications are handled
according to the provisions of the state of opportunity statues.
The following documents are requested as one PDF-document: curriculum
