Professorship (W3) of Sociology of Religion

The Faculty of Educational and Social Sciences at the UNIVERSITY OF
MÜNSTER, Germany, intends to fi ll the position of a
Professorship of Sociology of Religion (salary level W3)
This professorship is part of the federal- and state-funded Programme
for Women Professors to promote gender equality in academia and
research at German universities (Professorinnenprogramm III). The
position is to be filled at the earliest possible date. The professorship
will be assigned to the Institute of Sociology.
In research and teaching the professorship represents an empirically
oriented sociology of religion with a macro-sociological orientation
towards questions on the position and role of religious orientations or
institutions in late modern society. The position has a corresponding
research profi le: the professorship results from the connection
between the Cluster of Excellence "Religion and Politics in Pre-Modern
and Modern Cultures" and the Institute of Sociology at the University
of Muenster. Therefore, in addition to proven theoretical and
methodological competences in the empirical sociology of religion,
a focus in social or dierentiation theory (possibly sociology of
organization, sociology of power, or sociology of law) is expected from
The successful candidate is expected to have a track record of high-level
research contributions and relevant, including internationally notable,
publications. Experience in securing research funding is desired.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to participate in
the study programme of the Institute of Sociology as well as to have
research and teaching strengths compatible with those of the institute.
Prerequisites for an appointment are a university degree,
pedagogical aptitude, and a particular capacity for academic work,
usually demonstrated by a doctorate of high quality in sociology.
Prerequisite for the application are academic achievements made as
a Juniorprofessor (assistant professor), in a Habilitation (postdoctoral
qualifi cation), as a member of the academic sta of a university or
non-university research institute, or in a research position in business,
industry, ad-ministration or other relevant fi elds in Germany or abroad.
