Founded in 2014, the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History (MPI-SHH)
in Jena is a young and highly dynamic research institution that assembles scientists
from all over the world to work across a wide range of disciplines bridging the natural
sciences and the humanities, such as genetics, linguistics, archaeology, anthropology,
and history. The Department of Archaeogenetics utilizes the recent advances in
molecular approaches on biomolecules, such as stable isotope research and genome
wide DNA sequencing, to uncover an entirely new spectrum of information that can be
retrieved from sample repositories such as anthropological and archaeological collections.
For the coordination of our growing number of third-party funded projects as
well as for general tasks in scientific project management we are seeking a
Project Coordinator with a background in archaeology
to start as soon as possible.
Consultation and strategic planning of project actions
Follow-up on project-related publications and outreach measures
Scientific and financial reporting in German and English
Communication with funding bodies and project members
Facilitating communication with administrative, financial, and scientific sections of
the Institute about all project-related actions and outcomes
Administrative support of the Institute‘s third-party funded projects (ERC, BMBF,
Preparation of audits and financial statements
Preparation of cost calculations and budget plans for grant applications
Supervision of cost incurrences and spending structures of running projects in accordance
with the guidelines
Support of the director of the Archaeogenetics Department in his scientific communication
with archaeologists, including correspondence with cooperation partners
and management of archaeological samples
A degree in archaeology, anthropology, genetics or another field related to the
institute‘s research profile
Solid experience in managing big third-party projects
Strong command of written and spoken English and German
Knowledge of administrative regulations
Strong affinity to the research topics represented by the Institute
Experience in international scientific environments, ideally as a project coordinator
Absolute reliability, a strong sense of responsibility, and discretion
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Openness, flexibility, and an interest in learning new tasks and skills.
We offer a full-time position to start as soon as possible and to last until 30th June
2021. Payment is according to TVöD up to pay group E12 depending on qualifications
and including usual employee benefits of public service.
