Research Analyst position
starting on 01.07.2018.

We are looking for a person with interest in
risk management solutions for developing countries and with experience in stakeholder engagement and transferring scientific results to a non-scientific audience to join our team.
Working together with governments, research institutes and private organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa and India, we aim to transform research into user-oriented climate services and policy that enable end-users in partner countries to better adapt to climate change in the field of agriculture. Central to this position is the active engagement with local stake-holders in order to ensure that scientific results are transferable on the ground and will ulti-mately help stabilize the crop production of smallholder farmers. Located in the field of agriculture, this position will work closely with a team of crop modellers as they develop risk transfer and risk management solutions.
The position is funded for
22 months. Remuneration is in accordance with German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13. This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week. The position can be filled on a part-time basis.
Key responsibilities:
- Organize and conduct workshops with a broad range of stakeholders including governments, insurers and other risk management and transfer providers in East Africa and India
- Contribute to the implementation of projects through close collaboration with other researches at PIK as well as the involved stakeholders
- Inform development of crop models with the aim of advancing their utilization for risk assessments
- Project management, writing of project reports and applying for funding
- Contribute to writing and publishing of articles in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from the research projects and present research findings at international conferences
Requirements
- You hold a Master's Degree in the field of Development Studies, Political Science, Social Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Economics, Geography, Natural Science or other project relevant field. Knowledge in tropical agriculture and/or sustainable development is valuable.
- Experience and interest in stakeholder engagement as well as communicating scientific results to a non-scientific community.
- Experience in project management and writing research proposals is valuable.
- You have knowledge or are interested in risk management and transfer solutions (i. e. insurances solutions). A basic understanding in statistics is valuable.
- Work experience in developing countries is desirable and the willingness to travel to the these countries.
- You have excellent communications skills and are fluent in oral and written English. Proficiency in Kiswahili and / or other languages (e. g. Spanish, French) is an asset.
- You have the ability to work independently, goal-oriented and on your own initiative.
