Research assistants /PhD in Quantum Technology at the Institute of Nanostructure Technologies and Analytics, University of Kassel, Germany

Logo
The Institute of Nanostructure Technologies and Analytics (INA) is inviting strongly motivated people to apply for research assistant positions to join their Nano Optics Group led by Priv.-Doz. Dr. M. Benyoucef as part of a new interdisciplinary project on Scalable Molecular Quantum Bits (SMolBits). The project's focus is on understanding quantum effects in molecular systems integrated on solid state platform and for the development of a new concept for quantum computers and/or quantum processors. The project features the participation of interdisciplinary teams (Experimental and Theoretical Physics, Chemistry, and Electrical Engineering) and is coordinated by the Technological Physics. The State of Hesse is funding "SMolBits" with approx. 4.4 million euros over four years.
A research assistant (EG 13 TV-H), temporary, part-time (currently 20 hours per week). (Reference number: 32081)

The position is limited to 4 years (§ 2 Paragraph 2 WissZeitVG). Acquisition of PhD is desirable.

This position is dealing with optical investigations of Lanthanide molecules and developing techniques to investigate single photon emission from single molecules attached to solid-state platforms.

Tasks:
  • Working on the SMolBits project
  • Interact with the other groups involved, present the results on scientific conferences and publish the work in peer-reviewed journals
Requirements:
  • Candidates are expected to hold a Master degree in physics, and/or nanoscience, and/or electrical engineering with very good marks;
  • Outstanding academic record with background in solid state physics and semiconductor-based nanostructures Optical characterization of nanostructures
  • Good written and spoken English
Of advantage will be:
  • Previous research experience in optical characterization
  • Relevant experience in the field of molecular quantum systems
  • Team working style
For further information please contact Priv.-Doz. Dr. Mohamed Benyoucef, Tel.: 0561-804-4553, Email: m.benyoucef@physik.uni-kassel.de or Prof. Dr. Johann Peter Reithmaier, Tel.: 0561-804-4430, Email: jpreith@ina.uni-kassel.de.

The Institute of Nanostructure Technologies and Analytics (INA) of the University of Kassel, Germany, is a joint lab between Electrical Engineering and Physics. The INA is operated mainly by two groups with currently about 80 people (including students) focusing on nanostructure technologies and their applications mainly in photonics, optics and optoelectronics. The resources at INA include 400 sqm clean room facilities with semiconductor processing technology for III-V materials and Si and about 400 sqm additional laboratory space. This includes state-of-the art epitaxial (MBE, CVD), lithography (photo, e-beam), dry-etching (RIE, ICP-RIE), deposition (evaporators, IBE, CVD), and analytical equipment (PL, XRD, AFM, FIB, laser measurement systems) allowing full process flows from epitaxial materials to mounted devices. The Technological Physics Department (http://tp.ina-kassel.de) operates a double chamber molecular beam epitaxy (Veeco Gen II Modula) for III-V materials based on GaAs and InP substrates. A new double chamber MBE system dedicated for III-V and Si/Ge epitaxy will be installed in 2018, which will allow the monolithic integration of III-V active materials on Si.

Application deadline: 05.03.2019
