Swiss Job Market Monitor
The Swiss Job Market Monitor (Stellenmarkt-Monitor Schweiz) explores the human resource, skill, and qualification demand of Swiss businesses as well as disparities on the job market. The primary basis for the job market monitoring's data are representative surveys of job advertisements online and in the press since 1950. While ensuring high scentific standards are met, currently we are aiming for a far-reaching automatisation of data collection and information extraction from all relevant online media. The Swiss Job Market Monitor is part of the University of Zurich's Institute of Sociology and is under the direction of Prof. Dr. Marlis Buchmann.
To add to our research team, we are looking for a:
Research Associate (60-80%)
starting immediately or by agreement with in-depth expertise in the areas of complex data collection and analysis methods as well as web data extractionTasks
Ensuring the job market monitoring's representativeness by continually observing job advertisement practices and comparing the data of the Swiss Job Market Monitor with other job market indicators. If required, the associate will also optimise the basis for the calculations, adapt the survey design and create the technical requirements for integrating additional advertising media.
Responsibility for the further technical development of the survey infrastructure. This includes the automatisation of collecting online job advertisements to the extent possible (especially in social networks) under consideration of scientific standards for data collection.
Conceptualising, executing and publishing scientific analyses with data from the Swiss Job Market Monitor (e.g. change in skill demand, mismatches, connection between job offers and career paths) or on methodological aspects of the monitoring.
University degree (at least an MA) in social or business and economic sciences (or similar)
Research experience and interest in the areas of job markets, education or human resources
In-depth knowledge of complex sampling and survey methods as well as statistical analysis methods
Proven experience with web data extraction / crawler technologies, spidering in the area of social networks
One or more suitable programming languages (including regular expressions), considerable experience with relational SQL databases, advanced skills in Excel
Very good knowledge of English and German (working language German)
Work in an innovative, long-term research project
