For the
Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems of the
Hamburg University of Technology for the earliest possible date, we are offering three exciting PhD positions:
Research Associate (m/f/d)
Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (m/w/d)
For a maximum of 3 (one opening) up to 4 years (two openings)
The remuneration is in accordance with TV-L 13.
No.: 16322WE24
The broad research scope of the PhD positions is in regeneratively powered sensor and actuator systems (Cyber-Physical Systems) and/or mobile, micro autonomous underwater vehicles (μAUVs). The ultimate goal of such technology is to collect environmental data and to monitor civil infrastructure without human intervention. For this purpose, the institute conducts research in the areas of acoustic underwater communication, localization and navigation, low-power and backscatter communication and task planning for sensors powered from regenerative sources. Our research methods are based on computer science, electrical engineering, and mechatronics. We design methods and algorithms, that we implement for prototype hardware and devices, and we carry out scientific evaluation via simulation and real-world experiments. Moreover, we develop custom circuits and hardware prototypes for research purposes, and we apply engineering concepts such as control theory for autonomous underwater navigation.
The offered positions are situated in the research areas of the institute, i.e., they should generally fall in one of the following domains:
- wireless low-power or passive communication and networking (hardware and/or protocols), or
- methods and algorithms for self-localization of mobile underwater robots, or
- task scheduling for intermittently powered devices
However, the prospective PhD students have the opportunity to refine their field of research based on their individual strengths and focus.
