Sedimentary Systems
Advertisement number LK 214/19
The Department of Geosciences at the University of
Bremen is an internationally established research and
teaching institution. It covers the entire spectrum of
modern geosciences, offers four application- and
research-oriented and internationally directed courses
(BSc and MSc) and maintains close scientific cooperation
with non-university research institutions. In conjunction
with the Research Faculty MARUM, Bremen is an
internationally leading research location in the field of
marine sciences. As part of the reorientation of the
Sedimentology Division, we are looking for a junior
scientist who is keen to develop an independent research
profile in the field of sedimentary system analysis and at
the same time contribute to and further develop our
cooperation network. Infrastructure and equipment will
be made available for this purpose.
The tasks include:
- Independent research in one or more of the fields of
sedimentology: e.g. sedimentary processes, basin
analysis, facies analysis, coastal dynamics, applied
sedimentology. The research can be carried out in
carbonate and/or clastic systems; a connection to our
marine focus is desirable.
- Development and implementation of own research
projects, including the acquisition of third-party funds
as well as the supervision and support of young
scientists.
- Independent teaching in BSc and MSc courses in
German and English
- Independent realisation of field courses (excursions,
mapping courses and field internships)
- Participation in academic self-government.
Your qualifications (recruitment requirements):
- Outstanding doctorate in geosciences completed no
longer than 5 years prior to application
- Further record of scientific achievements (e.g.
publications, third-party funding)
- First experience in academic teaching, including field
training
The appointment is initially for a period of four years
(remuneration group 14 TV-L). The employment is
regulated by the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract
(WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be
considered for appointment if they still have the
respective qualification periods available in accordance
with §2 (1) WissZeitVG. Pending on a positive
performance evaluation, the position may be tenured as
a senior researcher (f/m/d) (remuneration group 15 TVL).
The candidate will be able to carry out research and
scientific teaching independently within the framework of
the Bremen Higher Education Act (§ 24). The teaching
obligation is governed by the Ordinance on the Obligation
to Teach and the Proof of Teaching and amounts to four
hours in the function as researcher and nine hours in the
function as senior researcher. Further information on
