Researcher (f/m) in the Research Group Market Design
Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW)
The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim is looking to fill the following position in the Research Group Market Design at the earliest date possible:
Researcher (100 %) (PhD student or postdoc)
The institute's Research Group “Market Design“ focuses on the analysis
and optimisation of markets. Its aim is to improve the performance of existing
markets by actively shaping market rules. To this end, it examines
the peculiarities of each market and identifies their prevailing modes of
action. The Research Group uses theoretical, experimental and empirical
methods to find market mechanisms which help regulators to achieve
their objectives in the most effective way possible.
The position involves working on projects in the areas of both scientific research
and high-level economic policy advice focused on the Design of
Matching Markets. This position is open to university graduates as well as
post-doctoral researchers with experience in a related field of research.
We are looking for candidates with a master's degree and strong previous
academic performance or a doctoral degree in a quantitative discipline
(e. g. economics, engineering, mathematics, computer science or other
related subject). An interest in issues relating to game theory and previous
experience in economic advising would also be an advantage. Candidates
should ideally also display a talent for presenting information
and research results in an accurate and concise manner. The position
does not involve any teaching responsibilities. Knowledge of German is
desirable but not essential.
ZEW is offering the successful applicant the chance to take on an exciting
and challenging role in a dynamic research environment as well as to carve
out a position for themselves in a highly interesting area of research.
ZEW's vast international network of partner institutions as well as the
great number of projects involving international cooperation also offer
many exciting opportunities for future career development. The institute
provides considerable support to its researchers in attaining their doctoral
or post-doctoral qualifications, for example, by offering courses,
granting sabbaticals as well as encouraging research visits at universities
and research institutions abroad. Remuneration is based on the TV-L
statutory salary scale and its associated public sector benefits.
If interested, please submit your application (including a motivation letter, CV, and 2 reference letters) citing the reference code
"Z-MD-12/17" via the online application form on our website by 31 January 2018.
