The “Nanomagnetism and Magnonics” Research Group under the direction of Prof. Dr. Andrii Chumak at the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna, is a young and ambitious team that conducts internationally leading research in the fields of spintronics and magnonics. The research scope of the group encompasses magnonics, magnon spintronics, quantum magnonics at low temperatures, and nonlinear spin-wave phenomena in nanoscale hybrid systems.
We are looking for a motivated PostDoc to extend our team and to join the ERC Starting Grant project “Nano-scale magnonic circuits for novel computing systems (MagnonCircuits)”. The strategic goal of the proposed MagnonCircuits research program is to make a transformative change in the data processing paradigm from traditional electronics to magnon spintronics. The candidate is expected to contribute to the next further transfer achievements of the MagnonCircuits achievements from the classical to quantum physics at low temperatures. Thus, an expertise either in spin-wave physics or in low-temperature quantum physics is highly desirable.
The position is aimed to be filled from December 1st 2019.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves:
- Contribution to the development and construction of experimental setup for the investigation of spin-wave physics at mK temperatures
- Performing experimental measurements using various techniques
- Developing and strengthening the independent research profile
- Involvement in research projects / research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Doctoral degree/PhD degree
- Professional and methodological competence: Expertise in experimental investigations of spin-wave dynamics OR expertise in low-temperature techniques
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Good command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
It is highly desirable that the candidate has a documented track record on research activities in magnonics or in experimental quantum physics at low temperatures. The candidate should also have experience in scientific writing. The successful candidate is expected to carry out experimental research related to the group’s ongoing experiments while also advancing her/his independent research.
