The
Mildred Scheel Nachwuchszentrum (MSNZ) for Cancer
Research in Würzburg
(
https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/msnz)
connects life scientists and clinicians to investigate mechanisms of
tumor development and to develop new and innovative therapeutic
strategies. Together with the Department of Biochemistry and
Molecular Biology (
https://www.biozentrum.uniwuerzburg.de/molbio/startseite/), our newly founded center is
looking for enthusiastic
young scientists (f/m/g) with a
background in Life Sciences
who are interested to pursue PhD projects or postdoctoral work in
one of the following groups.
Armin Wiegering works on colorectal cancer with the aim to
identify potential new therapeutic options, focusing on the control
of protein translation in these tumors.
Carolin Kastner works on colorectal liver metastasis. The planned
project aims to identify factors necessary to coordinate transcription
with DNA replication and prevent conflicts of both processes in
highly proliferative tumor tissues.
Gabriele Büchel works on neuroblastoma. The aim of her project is
to establish new in vivo models of neuroblastoma, which will be
used to test therapeutic strategies that target proteins of the MYCN
interactome.
Martin Eilers will study the MYCN oncoprotein, which drives the
genesis of many pediatric and adult neuroendocrine tumors. The
aim of the project is to identify protein complexes of MYCN that are
critical for tumor maintenance and explore ways to target them.
Elmar Wolf will establish systems for acute depletion of MYCassociated
proteins to investigate their oncogenic role and validate
them as drug targets. For example, we will explore novel
pharmaceutical strategies such as PROTACs to inhibit their
oncogenic function.
Applications can be submitted until December 31st 2020.
Projects shall start in spring 2021 (the exact starting times can be
negotiated).
We offer:
The recruiting groups work at the Biocenter of the University of
Würzburg with fully equipped and modern laboratories, state-of-theart
technology, competitive funding and access to core facilities.
- PhD students will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Life
Science with broad research and skills training
- Close collaborations are established within the Mildred Scheel
Nachwuchszentrum and the Biocenter, with the Comprehensive
Cancer Centre, the University Hospital, the Rudolf Virchow Center
and the Max Planck Institute for Systems Immunology in
Würzburg
- Würzburg is a thriving place with local recreation areas and
student-friendly vibes.
We welcome applications from suitably qualified people regardless
of race, gender or disability. The University and the University
Hospital aim to increase the proportion of female employees,
therefore applications from qualified women are particularly
welcome. Preference will be given to people with disabilities in the
case of otherwise equal aptitude. Working language is English,
knowledge of the German language can be beneficial, but is not
required.
If you would like to hear more about the projects please get in touch
with the relevant Group Leader. Please send applications including a
cover letter (with a statement of motivation), CV, relevant certificates
and academic transcripts as well as contact information of two
references
as a single PDF file via email to
