About the Department:
The Department of Informatics has seven research groups that deliver research and education at a high international level in algorithms, bioinformatics, information security, machine learning, optimization, programming theory, and visualization. All the groups are successfully co-funded by research grants, among others by the European Research Council (ERC). The department offers state of the art education at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.
One of the largest research groups of the department is the interdisciplinary research center Computational Biology Unit (CBU) for computational biology and bioinformatics. As the coordinator of ELIXIR2 Norway, CBU develops, operates and provides support for e-infrastructure targeting life science researchers.
System administration of the department's Linux server infra structure.
Local IT-support for the staff.
Operate and develop national e-infrastructure services in collaboration with CBU Service Group.
Qualifications and personal attributes:
Master in Computer Science or equivalent is required. Long relevant practical experiences combined with relevant courses may compensate for not meeting the formal education requirements.
Experience from Linux system administration in a team with responsibility of medium complexity IT-infrastructure, including use of virtualization technology and security management, is a requirement.
Service mindedness is required, with good communication skills to be able to understand the needs of the users and the projects.
Experience with direct hands-on user support on IT-related issues is highly desirable.
Experience with large scale storage/file servers, batch job scheduling or network administration is an advantage.
Experience with programming in Java or Python is desirable.
Experience from working in a software development team is an advantage.
Knowledge on research data within life science and bioinformatics is an advantage.
Applicants must have excellent skills in oral and written English.
A good command of the Norwegian language is an advantage, and we expect the applicant to learn Norwegian eventually. Courses will be offered.
We expect enthusiasm and independence, as well as the ability to perform well in a cross disciplinary team.
Willingness and capability to learn new things as required to solve tasks is a requirement.

Salary at pay grade 59 - 67 as senior engineer (code 1181) This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 523 200 – 605 500,-. Alternative as a chief engineer with salary pay grade 55 – 62 (code 1087). This currently amounts to an annual salary of NOK 488 00 – 552 800,-
