The laboratory of professor Geert Carmeliet is focusing on skeletal cell metabolism in bone development, homeostasis and disease.
The lab is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the team. The growth of blood vessels, or
angiogenesis, is critical for normal bone development and plays a crucial role in bone repair. Hypoxia signaling is an important
stimulator of angiogenesis, but also regulates skeletal cell properties by controlling their metabolism. Our recent data show that
cell metabolism of skeletal cells contributes to bone development and is crucial for bone regeneration. These studies reveal that
targeting skeletal cell metabolism could be a possible therapeutic strategy for targeting bone disorders. We are now aiming to
investigate several metabolic pathways in different skeletal cell types. Advanced metabolic analyses will be combined with state-of-the-art
cell biological and molecular assays. The importance of the identified metabolic pathways will be validated by genetic or pharmacological
approaches in in vitro models and in preclinical mouse models of bone pathology.
You can work independently within a multidisciplinary team
You contribute to projects by analyzing the metabolic profile of skeletal cells using appropriate methodology
You can use preclinical mouse models to provide in vivo significance of the metabolic pathways
You can combine wet- and dry-lab expertise in molecular and cellular biology to answer specific research questions
You can organize and troubleshoot practical work independently
You can communicate results in a professional manner and participate in seminars.
You have a PhD in biomedical sciences with focus on metabolism/skeletal tissue/regenerative medicine or any related field.
You should be skilled in molecular and cellular biology methods, biochemistry and cell culture.
You are interested in working in a multidisciplinary environment of experts in biomedical sciences and engineering.
You have passion for science and the motivation to work on an innovative project in an open and dynamic team.
You should have excellent organizational skills and can work in a team as well as independently.
You should have good social and communicative skills and a solid knowledge of English.
You have a good publication record in peer-reviewed international journals.
