Assistant professors on tenure track have a six year period in which their research time is protected and set at 50% of their contractual work time.

Organisation

As a result of sustained growth in our international business programs, the Department of Global Economics & Management, University of Groningen (Netherlands) invites applications for a position at the rank of tenure track assistant professor of International Business.

The department is an active and international research group, consisting of approximately 80 people. The department is unified by its interest to perform theory driven empirical research on (de-)globalization, sustainability, global value chains, multinational firms, CSR, and cultural and institutional change. The department brings together expertise from full professors in international business (Sjoerd Beugelsdijk, Alan Muller, Rian Drogendijk) as well as international economics and economic geography (Harry Garretsen, Steven Brakman, and Bart Los). All courses taught by the department are international in content and instruction is in English. Members of our department have published in wide range of top journals including Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Academy of Management Review, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of World Business as well as other journals that belong to the eco-system of IB journals.

The department offers two three-year bachelor programmes, namely the BSc International Business, and the BSc Economics & Business Economics. In addition, we are responsible for two one-year MSc programmes: the MSc in International Business & Management, and the MSc in Economic Development and Globalization. Members of the department also teach in the selective honours programme for BSc students, as well as the challenging two-year Research Master programme, which is intended for students aiming at a PhD.

Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,974 (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 6,181 (salary scale 12) gross salary per month for a full-time position as Assistant Professora full-time position (1.0 FTE)

  • participation in a pension scheme for employees.
Favourable tax treatment may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

We offer an appointment for seven years, on the condition of a positive mid-term evaluation at the end of the third year of employment. The seventh year is intended to compensate for any ‘life events’ (e.g., prolonged illness or parental leave) which might take place during the first six years. Based on a positive final evaluation at the beginning of the sixth year at the latest, tenure will be granted. Tenure entails a permanent contract and promotion to the rank of associate professor.
