Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Plant-Insect Interactions«

to begin in summer semester 2019. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).

Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and is affiliated with the World Agricultural Systems Center - Hans Eisenmann-Forum. Within the TUM School of Life Sciences, the professorship will either belong to the Research Department Plant Sciences or to the Research Department Ecology and Ecosystem Management. The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of plant-insect interactions with a focus on an insect model system relevant to agriculture, horticulture or forestry. The research should lead to the development of concepts for sustainable pest control in crop production, horticulture and/or in forest systems. Methodologically, a combination of empirical field work with molecular and/or chemical ecological work is desirable. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. Specifically, teaching of basics of plant-insect interactions, insect control, and biocontrol is expected.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
