The
Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Bioprocess Engineering«
to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6
years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).
Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology
and Sustainability with additional affiliation to the Department of Chemistry,
to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, or to the TUM School of Life
Sciences. The Straubing Campus provides a dynamic academic environment
with a rapidly growing number of faculty, students and staff, as well as laboratory
and research facilities. Our aim is to make the campus the leading European
center in the field of Bioeconomy focusing on biomass utilization for
chemical and material use, on environmentally sound biotechnological and
chemical conversion technologies, related economic, social and political aspects
and frameworks. The research and teaching activities benefit from the
scientific environment of the TUM departments, all of which have potential
and promising cross-references to the field of Bioeconomy.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of TUM professors include research, teaching and the
promotion of early-career scientists. We seek an expert in the research area
of Bioprocess Engineering with a focus on renewable resources and systems
biology as well as the associated plant development and process design.
Teaching duties include courses in the university's bachelor and master programs,
especially in the bachelor and master program in Chemical Biotechnology.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific
achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international
standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree
or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude are also
prerequi-sites. Substantial research experience abroad, full commitment to
do interdisciplinary research, and a proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative
research projects and to attracting third-party funding (e.g. DFG, EU,
AiF) are expected. Furthermore, a proven ability to develop biobased processes,
strategic concepts for Bioeconomy and special knowledge in relevant
methods of systems biology are highly desirable. Experience in industrial production
would be a plus.
