The Department of Accounting, Innovation, and Strategy at the University of Vienna invites applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher (“Universitätsassistent”) in Strategic Management/Organizational Design.
The Department of Accounting, Innovation, and Strategy at the University of Vienna belongs to one of the most internationally focused and visible management research areas in Europe – with its members constantly ranked among the top in management research among all universities in the German-speaking world.
The Strategic Management Subject Area within the Department has commenced its operations in August 2012. Currently, our team consists of 10 people from four different nationalities. Jointly, we investigate questions pertaining to strategic decision-making of organizations and related performance implications. We are particularly interested in early-stage (organizational design) decisions relevant to firms operating in (technologically) innovative environments. We are agnostic to methods and pursue formally analytical, simulation-based, ethnographic, large-scale empirical as well as experimental techniques. Our publications have appeared in the finest management outlets, such as the Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Production and Operations Management, Research Policy, and the Strategic Management Journal, to mention but a few. Our research has been funded by several agencies, and we regularly host conferences and seminars featuring colleagues from all over the globe.

We offer a 40 hours/week contract (gross salary amounting to approx. 50,000EUR/annum), including pension benefits and healthcare insurance, for up to six years.

We are looking for applicants who have a • Demonstrable interest in the study of strategic management, organizational design, and/or group decision-making, who are • Devoted to publishing in the finest academic journals in our field (as evidenced by acceptances/advanced submissions of their articles by/to leading outlets)
Candidates are expected to • collaborate with other faculty of the Department on projects of mutual interest, to • teach in the Bachelor and Master program at the Department (to the extent regulated by the collective bargaining agreement), and to • assist in the supervision of Master candidates at the Department.
More generally, candidates are expected to be involved in the following areas of work: Participation in research, teaching and administration: - Participation in research projects / research studies - Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations - Supervision of students - Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums - Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
We are looking for applicants with:
A PhD degree from renowned PhD programs in general management, strategy, or organizational science.
A strong quantitative background in at least one (ideally two) of the following areas: agent-based modelling/simulations, experimental methods, large-scale empirical analysis.
