University Assistant (post doc)
at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology

Reference number: 11547

Do you have a strong interest in systems biology and disease-related research in the context of chronic pain? Do you want to benefit from working in an interdisciplinary, dynamic, and highly motivated research group embedded in the excellent and international environment of the University of Vienna? Then come join our new team of the “Systems Biology of Pain” Group at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology as a Postdoctoral fellow. Our translational research focuses on the molecular underpinnings of painful pathologies in vertebrates. In particular, we have setup an integrated workflow for the discovery of system-wide proteome dynamics involved in chronic pain; please see our new (and currently in-development) webpage at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Vienna (https://backend.univie.ac.at/index.php?id=100017). The goal of our work is to reveal protein network signatures of chronic pain in preclinical mouse models and also in humans, e.g. pain patients (as part of on-going collaborations with clinicians). Candidates need relevant experience and proven skills in biochemistry and quantitative proteomics (mass spectrometry and bioinformatic analysis of mass spectrometry data) in the context of systems biology. Candidates who have additional expertise in pain research or the neurosciences are especially encouraged to apply.
It is also essential that the postholder is highly motivated and enthusiastic, is able to work independently and manage research projects including bench-work, literature search and collaborative work with other researchers (also collaborators) and staff.
Our research group is embedded in the Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Vienna. Thus, we benefit from close interactions with experts in chemical medicine, bioinformatics, drug screening, and systems biology. This interdisciplinary and dynamic environment provides ideal opportunities for collaborative research, learning, and scientific as well as personal development within the international research community in Vienna.
We embrace diversity and encourage international candidates to apply. The position is limited with 6 years, starting date is March 1, 2021.
