University Assistant (post doc)
at the Department of Religious Studies
to 31.03.2027.

The Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a 6-year postdoctoral position at the level of university assistant. We seek a scholar who conducts research of high-level international standing in the History of Alternative Religious Currents (with a focus on esoteric and occult traditions) paired with an expertise in Comparative Religion as well as in one or more additional religions (preference is given to South Asian Religions). Holding a Ph.D. in Religious Studies (or a related discipline) by the start of the appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute more generally to the Department’s teaching programme (according to the collective bargaining agreement), especially its M.A. curriculum, while sharing in the Department’s and Faculty’s intellectual life. The candidate will need to demonstrate an outstanding and sustained international track record of research achievement and mobility commensurate with the level of experience that can reasonably be expected for this position. Job Description:
Active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This involves – Developing and strengthening the independent research profile – Involvement in research projects / research studies – International publications and presentations – Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding – Preparing / writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis – Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement – Supervision of students – Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance – Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Profile:
Ph.D. in Religious Studies (or a related discipline)-
Professional competence in the field of History of Alternative Religious Currents-
Expertise in Comparative Religion-
Expertise in one or more religions-
Experience in teaching-
Experience in e-learning-
Excellent command of written and oral language in English-
Ability to work in a team-
Knowledge of university structures and processes-
IT user skills


In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have - Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning - Experience of working on research projects - Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards) - International presentation experience Desirable qualifications are - Knowledge of university processes and structures - Experience abroad - Experience of supervising students
