The Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies (DSHCS; https://dshcs.univie.ac.at/) seeks to fill the position of a University Assistant ("prae doc") in the field of late medieval and early modern history of South Eastern Europe with a focus on the social history of Venice. The successful candidate will conduct her*his research and work in the research cluster East European und Eurasian Studies. The DSHCS invites application from candidates with a doctoral project which is close to completion and who seeks to work on their doctoral project within the vital and international atmosphere of the University of Vienna. Doctoral candidates contribute to the activities within the DSHCS. The DSHCS offers its fellows a structured doctoral program and excellent supervision. Moreover, it promotes international mobility, networking and individual career planning through scholarships and workshops.
The employment relationship is limited to 3 month.

Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Profile:
* outstanding master degree or equivalent in History
* strong written and verbal skills
* well advanced doctoral project
* excellent command of languages relevant to conduct research in the history of Venice in late medieval and early modern times (e.g. Ancient Venetian, Old Church Slavonic, Church Slavonic)
* excellent command of spoken and written English
* social competence and integrative skills
* international experience
* capability and willingness of multidisciplinary co-operation
* excellent organizational skills
