The Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science at the Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic PhD student in the field of microbial ecology to work on the topic of microbial growth in the environment.
We are an international, committed team and offer an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories, a creative working atmosphere and flexible working times.
Application documents should include a letter of motivation, an academic curriculum vitae, and degree certificates.
Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This includes:
+ Involvement in research (on microbial growth efficiency)
+ Publications and presentations
+ Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
+ Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
+ Supervision of trainees and students
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement in the next 12-18 months.
+ Diploma or master's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biological engineering or equivalent qualification
+ Excellent command of written and spoken English
+ High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
+ Excellent team-working ability
Methodological competence (one or more of the following):
+ Experience with genomics and metagenomics analyses desirable
+ Advanced quantitative abilities and programming desirable
+ Hands-on experience with methods for microbial isolation and cultivation, possibly continuous culture desirable
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have very good communication and organizational skills.
