The Zimmer group in the Department of Neuroscience and Developmental Biology seeks a PhD student candidate to study whole brain dynamics of sensoy motor transformations.
The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration: - Participation in research projects / research studies - Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations - We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months. - Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement - Supervision of students - Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums - Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
The student must have successfully passed the Vienna Biocenter PhD program selection procedure prior to this application (see: https://training.vbc.ac.at/phd-program/).
Master degree in Biology or Molecular Biology.
Professional competence: the student is expected to have experience in undergraduate research in the field of Neurobiology - Methodological competence: the candidate is expected to have already experience in C. elegans genetics, behavioral analysis via image processing tools, neuronal Ca++ imaging via confocal spinning disk microscopy - Didactic competence: teaching experience in C. elegans behavioral biology is a MUST - High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing - Excellent command of written and spoken English - IT user skills, especially neuronal data analysis via custom written MatLab code - Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are - Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning - Knowledge of university processes and structures - Experience abroad - Basic experience in research methods and academic writing
