The Vienna CogSciHub is a measure of the Rectorate of the University of Vienna and the Faculties of Psychology, Life Sciences, Philosophy and Educational Sciences, Historical and Cultural Sciences, Philological and Cultural Sciences, and the Center for Molecular Biology. Vienna CogSciHub promotes the sustainable, long-term, and internationally competitive establishment and growth of interdisciplinary cognitive science at the University of Vienna and partner institutions in Vienna. Via a virtual "Core Facility", the Vienna CogSciHub offers its members access to a wide range of research methods for the interdisciplinary investigation of cognitive science research questions. These include, among others, neuroimaging (fMRI), eye tracking, brain stimulation, NIRS, behavioral physiology, and virtual reality-based equipment. We offer varied activities with sophisticated tasks, flexible working hours, training opportunities, and a creative working atmosphere with team spirit.
The successful candidate will also join the Vienna Doctoral School for Cognition, Behavior and Neuroscience (VDS CoBeNe) at the University of Vienna (https://vds-cobene.univie.ac.at). The main goal of VDS CoBeNe is quality assurance in PhD training and education. Together with the Vienna Cognitive Science Hub (https://cognitivescience.univie.ac.at/), it promotes an inter- and transdisciplinary knowledge exchange from the humanities to science. The employment contract is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 3 years, unless the employer requests a non-extension after a maximum of 12 months. An extension to 4 years is possible if the employee has proven his or her worth and the work has progressed accordingly.

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Applicants should have a strong interest in spatial cognition, language and multilingualism, and neuroscience. They should hold a university degree in Biomedical Engineering, have solid expertise in structural brain imaging analysis, and be experienced with novel analysis approaches such as spectral graph analysis and spatial grid analysis. They need to be fluent in English and to be able to communicate well in German (minimum B1 level). Applicants should send their CV, a brief statement of research interests, and the name and contact information of at least one reference. Teaching courses as defined by the collective agreement will be required for the position.
Profile:
- Degree from a University of Technology in Biomedical Engineering
- Solid experience with programming in Matlab, python and R
- Experience with brain imaging software such as SPM, Freesurfer, FSL and fMRIprep
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Autonomous and proactive working style
- Teaching experience is a plus.
