The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry. As part of the Faculty, the Institute of Mathematics represents the entire discipline of mathematics in research and teaching, without making an arbitrary separation into pure and applied fields.
The advertised position is associated with the research group of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Philipp Grohs.
We are looking for an independent, goal oriented scientist with interests in applied and numerical mathematics in particular in connection to machine learning and/or phase retrieval.
Responsibilities include participation in the research activities, the independent teaching of courses (holding classes due to extent regulations of wage agreement) and execution of examinations as well as participation in teaching evaluations and in administrative tasks.We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
Diploma or master degree in mathematics, high level of competence in functional analysis and numerical analysis as well as advanced programming skills.
Excellent command of written and spoken English.
