The Division of Microbial Ecology at the Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic PhD student in the field of microbial symbioses. We are an international, committed team and offer an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories, a creative working atmosphere and flexible working times.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This includes:
+ Involvement in a research project on the genomic diversity and evolution of environmental chlamydiae
+ Publications and presentations
+ Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
+ Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
+ Supervision of trainees and students
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement in the next 12-18 months.
+ Diploma or master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, or equivalent qualification
+ Excellent command of written and spoken English
+ High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
+ Excellent team-working ability
Methodological competences (one or more of the following):
+ Experience with genomics and metagenomics analyses desirable
+ Background in molecular phylogeny and evolution is considered an advantage
+ Hands-on experience with methods for cultivation-independent analysis of microbes, including fluorescence in situ hybridization desirable
+ Hands-on experience with methods for the isolation and cultivation of amoebae is considered an advantage
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have very good communication and organizational skills.
