of Prof. Cees Passchier). Candidates with an outstanding research record in
using field-based methods to understand large-scale tectonic processes, or in using
novel approaches to address key open questions in tectonics are encouraged to

team. This position is part of a cluster hire that will strengthen the institute’s two
main research directions in "Dynamics of the Solid Earth" and "Paleoclimatology",
along with other ongoing faculty searches in Metamorphic Processes and
We seek a creative individual with a willingness to collaborate across discipline
boundaries and interact with faculty and students. They are expected to complement
our existing research strengths, e.g., volcanology, petrology, geodynamics, and
paleoclimatology. The candidate is expected to have an excellent track record of
high quality and innovative research, successful research funding and effective
teaching and research supervision. We expect the candidate to establish a worldclass
research group, and to attract external funding, in particular in joint large
The successful candidate is expected to offer courses in the broad field of structural
geology and tectonics at the BSc and MSc level, including field-based methods.
Part of the teaching can be done in English. However, we expect the candidate
to communicate in German within a reasonable amount of time. Furthermore, the
candidate is expected to participate in service roles within the institute.
Applicants must meet the general requirements according to public services law
and the Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition to a doctoral
degree, a first-rate research record must be proven.
