Job description The Division II - Informatics, Economy, and Society - will offer a Full University Professorship (W3) “Decision making under high risk and high uncertainty” at the Institute of Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS). The recruitment takes place in the suspension model in accordance with Art. 15 § 2 KIT Act (“Beurlaubungsmodell gem. § 15 Abs. 2 KIT-Gesetz”). KIT invites applications for a research position (maximum of 2 hours teaching per week) at the level of Full University Professorship in the area of decision research with a focus on risk and uncertainties. The researcher should ideally have a background in the social sciences such as psychology, economics and sociology, we are also open to other disciplinary backgrounds (like computer science, mathematics, (theoretical) physics, etc.) that address questions as to how individuals deal with risk and uncertainties in an interdisciplinary way. The research focuses on trans- and interdisciplinary empirical research on risks and uncertainties. The university professorship forms a tandem with the university professorship for “Impact -based Forecasting”, the core team of the real word lab Real-time decisions under high and high uncertainty (ERNIE). ERNIE focuses on scientific, engineering and social science research into the multidimensional field of tension between the analysis and forecast of short-term extreme events and creeping environmental and climate changes in connection with their effects (“impact”) on society, the economy and the environment. ERNIE addresses risks of decision-making in politics and society, which is often required in a timely manner. With this orientation and a direct connection to the Center for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction Technology (CEDIM), a decisive contribution to transformation research should be made. Personal qualification: We are looking for an outstanding Scientist with excellent academic qualifications in their respective field. The candidate should have experience with inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration and communication with a research focus in the field of dealing with risks and uncertainties. This may be empirical or conceptual. The successful candidate will develop the real world laboratory ERNIE in close cooperation with the university professorship “Impact-based Forecasting” (call open in parallel to this one). An ability and willingness to cooperate with this professorship as well as with the other real world labs at KIT is required. A high level of commitment to add to improve the real world lab-research at KIT is expected.
