PhD Student, Noncoding RNA and microbiome

The Vogel lab invites applications for a doctoral student position to work on noncoding RNA regulators in organisms of the microbiome. We are particularly interested in the discovery of new functional noncoding transcripts as well as in RNA-binding proteins. For research themes and newly developed techniques such as Dual RNA-seq and Grad-seq techniques, see some of our recent publications (WestermannAJ etal. (2016) Nature 529:496-501; SmirnovAetal. (2016) PNAS 113:11591-6; Chao Y & Vogel J (2016) Molecular Cell 61:352- 363; Papenfort K et al. (2013) Cell 153:426-37).

The successful applicant will work in the dynamic environment of the Vogel lab at the IMIB and the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI). Applicants are required to hold or to obtain a first-class or upper second class Master degree in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or a related relevant biological subject. They should have excellent theoretical knowledge of molecular biology and good laboratory skills. The position is available for three years (from March 1st, 2018 onwards) with the possibility of extension by another year. Salary will be based on the pay scale for the public sector in Germany (TV-L) and comply with qualification. Part time employment is also possible.
