The position:

Human activities are accelerating environmental changes globally, with pollutants playing a key role in pushing planetary systems beyond safe limits and having significant impacts on biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and human health. In response to these challenges, this professorship will focus on biogeochemical mechanisms and processes that control the dynamics and fate of metals in environmental systems. While the primary focus is on metals, we also accept applications focusing on organic pollutants. The professorship is embedded in the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS), which integrates environmental pollution research with ecosystem ecology and microbiome science. Active collaboration with these research areas is expected.

The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.
