The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social sciences, and educational sciences. Scholars from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with disciplinary approaches, a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.

The Faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. The FHSE offers seven Bachelor’s and twenty-three Master’s degrees and hosts a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future careers.

Your role

The Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences (DBCS) within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences is seeking a leading academic to join its team as Full Professor or Associate Professor (promotion track) in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy. DBCS offers a highly successful and stimulating research environment as well as state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Beyond the department, current developments in health research and education at the University offer attractive possibilities and opportunities for collaborations and synergies.

The successful candidate is expected to lead research activities in clinical psychology and psychotherapy with a focus on the etiology and maintenance of mental disorders, as well as their prevention, diagnosis and treatment. They are expected to cover teaching in clinical psychology and psychotherapy at all educational levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD) and to contribute to strategic developments within the Department, the University and at national level in the area of mental health.

Potential research areas of the candidate are:
  • Experimental clinical psychology/experimental psychopathology, investigating the psychological processes involved in the etiology of mental disorders in a strictly controlled laboratory environment
  • Psychotherapeutic process research, examining the interactions and experiences within therapy sessions, focusing on how changes occur and what factors within the treatment process contribute to positive
  • Clinical health psychology/behavior change interventions, exploring the underlying mechanisms that drive behavior change and developing effective interventions in the context of health and well-being

Your profile
  • Ph.D. in Psychology (with specialization in Clinical Psychology)
  • Psychotherapy licence/approbation
  • A minimum of five years of post-doctoral experience acquired in a university or comparable research centre or equivalent
  • University-level teaching experience at the undergraduate and the postgraduate level
  • An outstanding track record of international peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining EU and other competitive international funding on a recurring basis
  • Well-established expertise in experimental psychology and/or evaluation and/or clinical trials
  • Genuine commitment to translational efforts
  • Substantial mentoring and management experience
  • An interdisciplinary orientation, including leadership roles in interdisciplinary networks or consortia
  • Extensive experience with public outreach and stakeholder engagement
  • Broad knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks
  • High visibility in the scientific community
  • Dedication to the principles of transparent and open science
Language requirements:

  • Contract Type: Academic - Permanent . This position is offered at the Full Professor or Associate Professor level, depending on qualification. Both positions are tenured. At the Associate Professor level, promotion to Full Professor is possible after 5 years upon positive evaluation.
