Ruhr-Universität Bochum

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create knowledge networks within and beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.
JUNIOR PROFESSOR W1 WITH TENURE TRACK W2 (M/F/D) IN BIOLOGY OF MICROORGANISMS
commencing as soon as possible.
The holder of the position will represent the subject of Biology of Microorganisms in research and teaching.
We are seeking early-career applicants with a strong focus on the physiology, genetics or cell biology of bacterial model organisms. In their research, they should address fundamental questions on a molecular level, such as the regulation of cellular processes, bacterial adaptation to varying environmental conditions (ranging from immediate stress response to long-term evolutionary changes), organismal interaction networks, or antibacterial mechanisms of action.
A strong commitment to teamwork and collaborations is expected. This includes active participation in joint research initiatives such as the Research Training Group “Microbial substrate conversion (MiCon)” and future collaborative projects in areas like environmental adaptation or antibiotic research. The appointee will have the opportunity to use the faculty`s core facilities for structural biology, imaging, and mass spectrometry.
The successful candidate is expected to secure third-party funding, contribute to grant initiatives (e.g. Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups) and teach at both undergraduate and graduate level in Biology. The position also offers the opportunity to participate in various doctoral programs at the RUB including the International Graduate School of Biosciences (IGB) and the RUB Research School.
The position will be filled with a tenure track for the professorship to W2. If the evaluation is positive, the professorship will be filled in an appropriately simplified procedure without a new announcement.
