Open PhD Vacancy at Tallinn University as Part of the Doctoral Network RePIM
Tallinn University invites applications for one fully funded PhD position as part of the international Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network (MSCA DN) RePIM – Revisioning Public Interest Media.
RePIM is a four-year European research network exploring how Public Interest Media can adapt and thrive in a data-driven, platform-dominated media environment. The network brings together leading European universities, Public Interest Media organisations, and industry partners to train 12 Doctoral Candidates across topics including media innovation, organisational transformation, audience analysis, policy development, and digital infrastructures.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary, international, and cross-sectoral research environment with opportunities for international collaboration, secondments, summer and winter schools, and close engagement with non-academic partners.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary, international, and cross-sectoral research environment with opportunities for international collaboration, secondments, summer and winter schools, and close engagement with non-academic partners.
We are looking for candidates with:
- A relevant Master’s degree in media studies, media management, communication, digital humanities, data analytics, or a related field
- Experience in media industry analysis, audience research, platform studies, or organisational research is considered an advantage
- Proficiency in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, with a willingness to develop mixed-methods expertise
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken
- Strong expertise in data analytics, including advanced proficiency in Python or R and familiarity with SQL databases
- Familiarity with the European public service media system and an understanding of its public value mission
- Familiarity with platform governance or media policy is considered beneficial
- Must not already hold a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment
- May be of any nationality
- Must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work or studies) in Estonia for more than 12 months during the 36 months prior to recruitment
- Must be willing to relocate to Estonia
- A competitive MSCA-funded salary for 36 months, including living, mobility, and, where applicable, family allowances, with the possibility of a funded fourth year subject to negotiation
- An academic secondment at Aalborg University in Copenhagen and at ERR, the Estonian public broadcaster
- Collaboration with leading European researchers and institutions
- Participation in a dynamic multidisciplinary doctoral network
