Professor W3 (m/f/d) in General and Comparative Literature Ruhr-Universität Bochum
The Faculty of Philology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor W3 (m/f/d) in General and Comparative Literature commencing at the earliest possible date.
The holder of the position will represent the subject of
General and Comparative Literature
in research and teaching.
The faculty is looking for a researcher who represents the full breadth of the field of General and Comparative Literature in both research and teaching, and who explores phenomena and processes that span language and literature. Programmatically, the candidate’s research should focus in particular on literary, poetological, or media-aesthetic forms of reflection as well as on the historical derivation of the relationship between nature and culture, between ecology and economy, or between living beings, technical objects, and hybrids. The main research areas of the professorship should be Poetics of the Anthropocene, Cultures of Knowledge, and Comparative Media Studies. Suitable candidates already have experience in at least two of these areas. We expect the future holder of the position to have a strong Cultural Studies orientation, which ideally supplements and expands Literary Studies. In particular, they are willing and able to contribute proactively to the further development of interdisciplinary research areas and to the interdisciplinary research network of the Faculty of Philology.
In terms of teaching, the candidate is generally expected to be involved in all modules of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in General and Comparative Literature.
The professorship makes a systematic contribution to the enhancement and extension of the research aeras of the faculty and the RUB, especially sustainability. Participation in interdisciplinary research networks of the faculty as well as the acquisition of substantial thirdparty funded projects on the leading research areas of the professorship are expected. Collaboration with the various interdisciplinary master’s degree programs of the RUB is desirable.

- strong commitment to teaching- courses must be taught in German;
- readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research;
- an international research profile in the mentioned research areas and proven ability to attract significant third-party funded research projects;
- the willingness and ability to participate in current research networks of the faculty and the university and in the development of new networks;
- teamwork and cooperative leadership.
