About

HSBA is the Business School of Hamburg's business community. Through our dual and part-time study programmes, we cooperate with over 300 companies and offer our approximately 1,000 students outstanding educational opportunities and excellent career prospects. Through teaching, applied research, and continuing education, we support companies in qualifying their employees and recruiting talent, actively strengthening the future competitiveness of Hamburg's economy. We work closely and collaboratively with students, alumni, companies, staff, and friends and supporters of HSBA, guided by the values of the Honourable Merchant. We value performance, internationality, diversity, and critical, future-oriented thinking. We place great importance on being a family-friendly organization. In recognition of our commitment to enabling a good work–life balance, HSBA has been awarded the Hamburg Family Seal.

To complement our academic team, we are seeking to fill the following position at the earliest possible date:

Professorship in Managerial Economics (f/m/d)

The position is initially offered on a part-time basis (50%), with the option of later expansion.

Your tasks

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate their aptitude for academic work through a completed — or near-completed — doctoral degree (minimum grade: "good" / magna cum laude) and who has professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Microeconomics
  • Industrial Organization
  • Empirical Economic Research
  • Behavioral Economics

Your profile

Additional topics may be developed as part of the innovative advancement of the curriculum. Competencies in the field of general business administration are also desirable. We place great emphasis on outstanding teaching and innovative, digital instructional methods. Accordingly, relevant experience in higher education teaching is expected, ideally evidenced by excellent evaluation results. Applicants should also demonstrate their willingness and ability to engage in research activities in their area of specialisation, ideally through relevant publications and/or successfully acquired third-party funding.

A willingness to teach in the relevant economics, quantitative, and management-related modules across HSBA's study programmes is expected, as is the ability and willingness to teach in English. Proficiency in German is also required.

Remuneration is in line with industry standards. A minimum of five years of professional experience is required, of which at least three years must have been gained outside academia.

Your benefits

At HSBA, you can look forward to a stimulating and varied role with a high degree of autonomy, a collegial team, flexible working hours, and a modern workplace with room for innovation and development in the heart of Hamburg.

We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications — regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social background, religion or belief, disability, age, or sexual orientation and identity. In accordance with HSBA's equal opportunities policy, female applicants will be given preference where qualifications are equal. For enquiries, please contact the Chair of the Appointment Committee, Prof. Dr. Alkis Otto, by email at alkis.otto@hsba.de.

Your application

We look forward to receiving your application documents (combined in a single PDF file) by 22 May 2026 via email to bewerbung@hsba.de.
