About

HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management is a state‑recognized, university‑level institution and ranks amongst the leading international business schools worldwide. Our goal is to educate entrepreneurial, responsible, and effective business leaders through outstanding teaching, impact-oriented research and practice. HHL stands out as an entrepreneurial institution with a clear research focus, outstanding teaching, and effective knowledge transfer into practice.

Your tasks

The new professor is expected to strengthen the profile of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in the field of sustainable Future Mobility. The professorship takes a data driven‑ and process‑oriented perspective on multimodal mobility systems, focusing on how sustainable, efficient, and user‑oriented transport offerings can be designed, governed, and scaled.

The focus of the professorship is to address the social, ecological, technological and economic challenges of the mobility sector. This includes developing innovative concepts for mobility systems; the analysis, design, and optimization of multimodal transport and mobility services based on data‑driven and process‑oriented approaches; fostering entrepreneurship in mobility‑related service innovations; and conducting research on strategies for emission reduction, demand driven capacity management of infrastructures and vehicles, energy efficiency, and circular economy in the mobility sector. A central research and teaching question is how high‑quality, reliable, and sustainable transport offerings can be designed to meet societal and market needs.

Research: As a research‑oriented university‑level business school, HHL seeks scholars who share our focus on managerially relevant and internationally recognized research. The candidate must have a proven track record of high‑quality research at the intersection of management and mobility, with a strong emphasis on data‑driven, process‑oriented, and analytical approaches to mobility systems and services. Collaboration with leading international research institutions is explicitly welcomed.

Teaching: HHL has a reputation for outstanding teaching and a highly international graduate‑level student body. The candidate should demonstrate strong evidence of teaching excellence in the areas of mobility‑related technological developments, data‑enabled business models, service and process design, and transformation management. Teaching should explicitly address the question of how effective and sustainable mobility offerings can be designed and managed. Teaching approaches should combine face‑to‑face, digital, and hybrid formats and follow a research‑informed teaching philosophy. As HHL teaches exclusively in English, fluency in English is required. Experience in business school teaching and non‑academic work experience are considered assets.

Knowledge Transfer: HHL aims to create impact not only within the academic community but also for companies and society at large. The candidate is expected to work closely with Transdev and its affiliated companies on issues relevant to the company, particularly in the fields of sustainability, recycling, logistics, and mobility services as well as in operating models (i.e. public-private-partnerships). A strong track record in knowledge transfer activities (e.g., third‑party funded projects, managerial publications, company collaborations, media engagement) is required, as well as the willingness to establish a competency framework for future executive education offerings in areas such as ESG, circular economy, and data‑driven mobility management.

Your profile

The position is advertised as an open rank professorship. Appointment and academic rank will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, academic achievements, and experience, in accordance with the applicable legal framework. In the case of a junior‑level appointment, the position may be offered as a tenure‑track professorship, subject to a successful evaluation of the candidate.

Applicants must fulfill the statutory requirements for an appointment as a professor under applicable higher education law. For senior‑level appointments, this includes outstanding additional academic achievements, such as a habilitation or equivalent qualifications. For junior‑level appointments, candidates are expected to demonstrate strong research potential, a promising international publication trajectory, and pedagogical aptitude.

Your benefits

As a member of the HHL faculty, the successful candidate will be part of an open, international, and mutually supportive working environment. Leipzig is a vibrant, centrally located city (e.g., a one‑hour train ride from Berlin) with more than 30,000 students. It is one of the fastest‑growing cities in Germany and offers a high quality of life for people of all ages, backgrounds, and family situations. The advertised position is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate seeking to further develop a holistic profile across research, teaching, and knowledge transfer.

Your application

Interested candidates should submit their application via our application tool (www.hhl.de/jobs/), addressed to the Dean of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, by September 30, 2026. The application should include a motivation letter, CV, a teaching statement with evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations or teaching awards), a research statement including a list of publications, an overview of knowledge transfer activities, and references. The successful candidate is expected to assume the position in April 2027.
