«A place where knowledge is created» – As a leading business university we set global standards for research and teaching by promoting integrative thought, responsible action and an entrepreneurial spirit of innovation in business and society.

Senior Lecturer in Programming and Algorithms (50%)

The University of St. Gallen is strengthening its degree programs in Computer Science with a new Senior Lectureship in Programming and Algorithms. We seek an individual who will engage in teaching fundamental courses, primarily in our Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, while combining this teaching with a compatible research interest (e.g., programming, algorithms, computer science education).

The successful candidate combines enthusiasm for research-based teaching and the development of new courses to further shape the Computer Science programs at the University of St. Gallen, supported by a research track record in their field. They have a passion for excellent teaching and curricular design. Teaching responsibilities include topics ranging from Introduction to Programming to Algorithms and Data Structures, including current developments in these fields.

We are looking for a team-oriented and committed personality whose research activities offer links to other research groups at the School of Computer Science, as well as to institutes across research fields represented at the University of St. Gallen. The successful candidate should become an active member of the faculty and be eager to engage in outreach activities with diverse stakeholder groups (e.g., schools, company partners). Ideally, they should have experience in acquiring external funding from private entities or public funding bodies.

The School of Computer Science currently hosts almost 100 academic and administrative employees from diverse backgrounds and has been committed to increasing diversity across dimensions since its inception. We are strongly committed to promoting equal opportunities and specifically encourage women and applicants from backgrounds underrepresented among our current faculty to apply. Candidates should submit their application, including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching portfolio, research statement, publication list, and the names of three individuals who could be contacted to provide references, in electronic form to the President of the University of St. Gallen, Prof. Dr. Manuel Ammann (online via https://www.unisg.ch/professorships). The teaching portfolio should provide a wellrounded overview of the candidate’s past teaching engagement, for example through a teaching statement, existing curricular scope, examples of teaching innovations, and reflections on course evaluations. It should also discuss the intended correspondence with the current teaching program of the School of Computer Science.

This position can potentially be combined with an additional research-oriented position (up to 50%) at the Institute or School of Computer Science of the University of St. Gallen (subject to separate arrangement), and candidates interested in such an arrangement are encouraged to contact us. For further information about the position, please contact Prof. Dr. Simon Mayer, Chair of the Appointment Committee (via email at facultyposition@unisg.ch).

The deadline for applications is April 20, 2026. Appointment talks are scheduled for June 15, 2026, and we ask interested candidates to reserve this date. We seek to fill the advertised position as of February 1, 2027, or by mutual agreement.
