About

HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management is a university-level institution and ranks amongst the leading international Business schools worldwide. Our goal is to educate entrepreneurial, responsible and effective business leaders through excellence in research and teaching. HHL stands out as an entrepreneurial institution with a clear research focus, outstanding teaching and effective knowledge transfer into practice. HHL was established in 1898 as first business administration faculty in German-speaking countries and the first private German Business School with AACSB accreditation. Today, HHL is an international organization, with a diverse and international student and faculty and alumni body, and partnership with 140 top universities worldwide and extensive company and research operations.

Your tasks

This professorship, endowed by Thalia Bücher GmbH, aims to further strengthen HHL's profile in the field of marketing. We welcome applications of candidates from all areas of marketing, especially quantitative marketing and marketing management who possess a holistic and management-oriented view of the discipline.

The professorship’s research focuses on current questions within the discipline, such as:

  • Omnichannel and Digital Commerce
  • Customer Experience at the intersection of analog and digital customer journeys
  • Brand Management in times of digital transformation
  • Personalized and sustainability-oriented customer communication

Experience in the application of artificial intelligence is particularly welcome, for instance in areas such as predictive analytics, recommendation engines, dynamic pricing, or automated content creation. Thalia Bücher GmbH can be supported in collaborative research projects with data, studies, or field experiments.

Your profile

We seek candidates who are committed to excellence in research, teaching and knowledge transfer:

Research:

As a research-oriented university-level business school, HHL seeks scholars that share its focus on excellent, managerially relevant, and internationally recognized research. The candidate has a track record of high-quality research in leading international marketing journals and aims to further develop this research profile. Candidates should also have experience in promoting young scientists.

Teaching:

HHL has a reputation for outstanding teaching and has a very international student body at a graduate level. The candidate should show strong evidence of teaching excellence in the field of marketing management. Teaching approaches should combine multiple methods for face-to-face, digital and hybrid teaching, and follow a research-induced teaching style. As HHL teaches exclusively in English, fluency in English is required. Experience in teaching in an international business school context and non-academic work experience are assets.

Transfer:

HHL aims to matter not only in the scientific community but to companies and society at large. The candidate has a track record in knowledge transfer activities (e.g., third-party funded projects, managerial publications, company cooperations, media coverage). The development of executive education programs on topics such as consumer behavior, customer centricity, retail transformation, omnichannel marketing, AI applications in marketing, and sustainable marketing is highly encouraged.

We particularly value candidates who:

  • Combine profound marketing expertise with a keen understanding of current market, technology, and societal trends
  • Are prepared to work interdisciplinary and actively foster collaboration with other HHL chairs and research centers
  • Possess experience in building and nurturing corporate networks and are open to collaborations with partners like Thalia Bücher GmbH

Applicants should have passed a positive evaluation either as junior/assistant professor via “Habilitation” or equivalent qualifications, a proof of suitability for university teaching (Master & Doctoral level) and engage in international academic networks. HHL has set a priority of increasing the number of international scholars among its faculty. It actively pursues a policy on diversity and gender equality.

Your benefits

As a member of the HHL faculty, the successful candidate will be integrated into an open, international, and mutually supportive working environment. Leipzig is a vibrant, centrally located (just a one-hour train ride from Berlin), and highly international city with over 30,000 students. It is the fastest-growing city in Germany and multiple studies have confirmed a very high standard of living for people of all ages, backgrounds, and family situations. The advertised role is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate that holistically covers and aims to further develop high competencies in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer.

Your application

Interested candidates for Professorship should submit their application via our application tool (www.hhl.de/jobs) to the Dean Prof. Dr. Tobias Dauth until September 15, 2025. The application should include a motivation letter, CV, a teaching statement including evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations or teaching awards), a research statement including a list of publications, an overview of knowledge transfer activities, and references. We intend the successful candidate to assume the role in January 2026.
