W3 Professorship in Pure Mathematics (m/f/x; Reference no.: W2762)
We are looking to recruit a leading, internationally recognized expert in the field of pure mathematics with an exceptional record in research and teaching who will enrich and strengthen the existing areas of expertise within the department. The research profile of the person appointed should demonstrate strong connections to algebra and analysis and foster collaboration in both directions. Possible research areas include geometry, topology and number theory. Ideally, the successful candidate will work in a field that ties in thematically to the Collaborative Research Centre TRR 195 ‘Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Application’, and be willing to contribute to follow-up projects in algebra and analysis. An interest in other current research being conducted in the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science is also welcome. The appointment will be made in accordance with the general provisions of German public sector employment law. Please refer to Section 41 of the Saarland Higher Education Act (SHSG, current version available at: https://recht.saarland.de/bssl/document/jlr-HSchulGSLrahmen). Applicants should have an excellent record of publishing high-quality papers in relevant areas and have proven experience in acquiring and managing external research funding. The successful candidate will also be expected to secure external funding for future projects. In addition, applicants must demonstrate excellent didactic skills and be willing to actively engage in the teaching of pure mathematics, particularly in the core undergraduate lecture series in algebra and analysis. The languages of instruction are German and, in the Master’s level courses, English. If not already proficient, the person appointed will be expected to acquire German language skills within a reasonable period of time. Saarland University views internationalization as a process spanning all aspects of university life. We therefore expect members of our professorial staff to promote and foster further internationalization. Special support will be provided for projects that expand collaboration within existing international cooperative networks, e.g. projects with partners in the European University Alliance Transform4Europe (www.transform4europe.eu) or the University of the Greater Region (www.uni-gr.eu). In accordance with the objectives of its gender equality plan, Saarland University is actively seeking to increase the proportion of women in this field. Qualified women candidates are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Preferential consideration will be given to applications from disabled candidates of equal eligibility. Furthermore, we welcome applications from all qualified candidates irrespective of nationality, ethnic heritage or social background, religious beliefs, personal beliefs or values, age, sexual orientation or identity.
